Ruby on Rails, MySQL and Git Dominate Developer's Toolkit
Bestvendor.com recently interviewed 500 developers from start-up companies to know the most popular tools they use and unearth some hidden gems and rising stars. Below is the infographic illustrated by Bestvendor.com showing results across a range of product categories, from bug tracking to version control.
Some notes:
- As expected and mentioned by RWW, some stalwarts predominate, such as Git, Dropbox, MySQL, and Google Analytics.
- Interesting situation with frameworks: Ruby on Rails is still a popular framework of choice among web developers while CodeIgniter is gaining traction among other PHP-based frameworks.
- Their observations make sense. "Better tools are arriving everyday". Again as I mentioned in my post before, choosing the right tool can be difficult and it can be a constant search for what works best for you so yes, it's critical to keep up.
- I liked their idea of including hidden gems and trending apps -- it gives you new alternatives to try. Node.js is really something to watch out for.
- If the results here are based from respondents in start-up companies, it would also be nice to know the popular tools of choice among developers in the enterprise or among developers in general.
